In late June 2002, we decided to spend a quiet weekend in Gilroy, the self-proclaimed "Garlic Capital of the World".

While we've been known to enjoy a clove or two ourselves, we discovered that if you're willing to poke around a bit, there's a lot more to the area. For example, if you follow the signs, you can easily find:

  • a number of small wineries,
  • great examples of old-style small-town shops, and
  • a seed company field-testing new hybrid flowers.
