In early June, we joined our friends Caroline and Terri for another fun day, this time at the Audubon Canyon Ranch's Bolinas Lagoon Preserve.

After an unexpectedly belated brunch, we spent the afternoon hiking and watching over a hundred egrets and herons nesting at the Schwartz Grove Rookery, high in the treetops of Picher Canyon. Between our binoculars and the many spotting scopes they have there, we got some wonderful views. Unfortunately for you, these pictures really can't do it justice, due to the wimpy zoom on our digital camera.

Unfortunately for us, it took forever to get home afterwards. Thanks to some ill-chosen "shortcuts", we got stuck in weekend traffic again. Unlike the morning nap, this time the kids were awake, hungry, and quite ready to tell us all about it. Yikes!
