Every winter, there are a few "minus tide" days when the sun and moon are in an alignment which causes unusually low tides. As you may imagine, this leaves far more tidepools exposed than usual, which makes for a really cool outing.

Evidently, the geography of the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve makes it especially well-suited for tidepooling on these occasions. When it comes to marine biology, we're no experts, but we certainly saw plenty of anemones and starfish.
