Today's favorite presents for both brand-new five-year olds were their equally-new bikes and helmets.
After a few spills and many adjustments to their helmets, seats, and training wheels, both kids quickly got the hang of the all-important skills of pedaling, braking, turning ... and posing for the camera:
Ever conscientious, Bryn repeatedly used her coaster brakes, saying at one point: "Mommy, I was going too fast for a little kid."

Like all modern youngsters, ours exhibit a startling level of brand awareness. So much so, in fact, that we were rather surprised to hear Bryn talking about renting a movie at "Buster Blocks".
Shh. Don't tell our friends at "FlixNet". ;-)

Speaking of paint colors, here's the final palette we wound up with:Most finishes were Eggshell or Pearl, which initially seems to be working out very well (although we did reconsider and use a bit of Semi-Gloss where needed).

In a world of thousands of paint colors (per company), it's hard enough for tasteful adults to pick just the right ones for each room's walls and trim. Thus, we made sure that the kids' input on their room colors started with some carefully pre-screened selections.
If you're ever tempted to let your kids have a more open-ended choice, go ahead and buy one of those virtual coloring book programs that paint companies sell these days. Boy will they have a blast!
'Nuff said.
