Hey, what happened to my rambunctious children? What? You're not children? What are you? Oh, snuggly kitty-cats:
Meow!
Meeeeeowwww!
Ah, I get it. For small folks, this isn't Leap Day, it's Pounce Day!
5:51:00 PM
Today marks the first ever Leap Day in the children's entire lives.
Thus, to commemorate the occasion, we broke out the camera to document all of the high-spirited action to be found in a household of young twins:
Yes, this day comes only once every four years, and we make great use of that extra time to ... uh ...
... catch up on our sleep?

Parenting lesson #24: When you're a kid, a boo-boo--or anything that looks like one--is a badge of pride. Recently, Bryn came home from preschool with red marker on her cheek, and when Kathy swooped in for a quick but successful wipe-off, Bryn became quite distressed, repeatedly wailing the following lament:
"I want my boo-boo back!"
A month or so later, our parenting lesson was driven home when Maya initiated this conversation with Kathy:
M: Mommy, I need four band-aids.
K: Why four?
M: 'Cause I'll have four boo-boos.
K: How do you know you're going to have four boo-boos?
M: 'Cause I'll have four band-aids.

Last weekend was Valentine's Day, and you'd be hard-pressed to top the sheer joy on the faces of these newlyweds. This slide show, shot by Derek Powazek, features some of the over 3000 same-sex couples who've finally been able to officially get married.
We hope your Valentine's Day was as happy as theirs.

Tonight we went to the doctor's office, and we discovered that Bryn can read even more words than we'd realized. In addition to seeing and reading common words such as "for" and "stop," she recognized the word "moon" (as in "Half Moon Bay," which appeared in a newspaper in the waiting room). Upon seeing the word "half," she said "hat." Maya is also beginning to read; the other day at school, she recognized the words "sun" and "cat," which appeared in a word puzzle without pictures. As Kathy's father is fond of saying, this is scary. They'll be smarter than we are before the age of five! We are so doomed.
