As promised, we've started digging through all those pictures that have been piling up over the past few months. We still have a long way to go, but this one just couldn't wait:

Why yes, that is a rather large bottle of Ibuprofen the little Miss is holding. Hmm. Funny you should mention that...

Have we mentioned that we're great fans of Dr. Spock? Benjamin, that is. The pointy-eared fellow isn't anywhere near as family-oriented.

Now this is a family milestone for you: today Paul's grandmother moved out of the house she's lived in since the 1940s. We're excited about Great-Grammie's new home, and we'll be thinking about her as she gets unpacked and settled in.

A few weekends ago, the kids collectively decided that naps were a great growth opportunity. Newfound skills they've been using that time to practice include the following time-tested toddler activities:
  • strip all their clothing off (including diapers),
  • strip all bedding off their cribs (while still in them),
  • gleefully pitch said items into each other's cribs,
  • repeat until it all winds up on the floor, and then
  • loudly complain that they're bored.
Fine. No harm, no foul, right?

Hah. We should know better ... especially after a week in which they finally mastered the "turn and push" school of opening doorknobs. As if that weren't enough, during a well-deserved timeout Friday night Maya finally managed to get out of her crib for the first time.

Which set the scene for yesterday. During a gleefully frenzied period of collective mayhem formerly known as "nap", they both proved their mastery of these additional skills:
  • climb out of their cribs,
  • climb back into their cribs,
  • climb into each other's cribs, and
  • displace every item in their cribs, on the shelves, and in the closet that wasn't out of reach or nailed down ... including contact paper.
Considering that they didn't neglect any of their previously-mentioned skills, the net result was ... well, let's just say it was a sight to behold.

The only thing containing the damage yesterday was the fact that they don't seem to have mastered the slightly more-advanced "turn and pull" school of door opening. Then again, Kathy is out of town this weekend ... and today's "nap" is still ahead of us.

We are so doomed.

Overheard this morning:
I want Mommy to put my shoes on, after Mommy change Maya's diaper.
Is this Bryn's way of getting as much attention as she can before Kathy leaves for the weekend, or she just trying to reinforce Wednesday's point about how typical these conversations now are?

Overheard at dinner tonight:
After we eat our cereal, we can have orange and yellow baby.
As proud parents, we have to note:
  1. These kids look forward to eating their favorite vegetables-in-a-jar ("sweet p-tay-toes" and "skahsh" respectively).
  2. They're quite fascinated with the recent past and the immediate future, and love to talk about it.
  3. Complex sentences like this aren't at all unusual these days.
  4. While we've highlighted a single sentence of Maya's here, both kids are speaking in paragraphs now, not just phrases or sentences.
Also overheard: repeated attempts to see who could do the best job of pronouncing "Ree-no uh-va-da", the city that Grandad is visiting tonight.

Well, after far too long, we finally have some breathing room again. The hard drive on the machine used to create content for this site has finally gone through a much-needed upgrade. Since we filled up the hard drive so quickly with pictures, we're now happy to report that we have 10 times the space we had only yesterday.

Of course, this means that we have a big backlog of pictures to wade through ... Now that's the kind of problem you want to have! :-)

PS: A word of advice to ThinkPad owners running NT who want to do a similar upgrade: ditch piixide and use atapi instead.
