Kathy's childhood friend Maria Morocco, whom she's known since second grade, came for a short visit yesterday.
This was Maria's first visit to California, and she was impressed by our orange trees -- the only ones she's ever seen outside Spain. Even from DC, this is a shorter trip. :-)

And then they were one. Guess what happened yesterday?
This is what's known in the business as the "before" picture. More later. ;-)

Ominous skies. To anyone looking overhead around 7:30 last night, it was quite obvious that a front was moving through:
So, what kind of weather can we expect today?

One of the overwhelming truths of the past year can be summed up with the following simple equation:Pump + car adapter = freedom Judging from the number of other similarly-minded mothers we've met, this is hardly news in our neck of the woods. How about yours?

Not sure how to celebrate Juneteenth -- a quintessentially American holiday? Well, here's a dot-com who'd love to help you out.

In the past week or so, the kids have discovered a wonderful feature of containers -- you can put stuff in them! (The guilty pleasure of taking things out is so last month.)
As best we can tell, Bryn made the original discovery when sorting various finger foods on the tray of her high chair:- park dried apricot bits inside the cup holder,
- drop swiss cheese chunks on the floor,
- eat all remaining bread cubes, and
- voila, a clean tray!
In turn, Maya's latest refinement on this discovery has been to realize that you can carry a lot more toys around the room if you fill up a container with all your favorites. This easily tops her previous personal best of five toys -- two in each hand in and one in the mouth.

Hey, kids! Whatcha up to?
What? You haven't heard? Why, we're trying on our new baby backpacks!
For some reason our parents were starting to get reluctant to carry us around in those front packs any more. We love all those outdoor adventures, so we persuaded them to splurge a little at the twins' club sale yesterday. (Two slightly-used packs for less than the price of one new one, actually.)
Pretty neat, huh? Our walking skills are improving steadily, but we'd rather let the grownups do the hiking for a few more years. (Sshhh. They think this is their idea.) Plus which, we get the best views from up here. ;-)
And away we go!

Well, we've been dusting out the electronic attic, and come up with a grand total of four, count 'em, four slide shows for you. Namely:Enjoy!

Separated at birth? In case you haven't already noticed the striking resemblance, take a look at the current pictures on the following two home pages:- Bryn at 10 months, and
- Paul at 12 months.
It's downright spooky!

Reflections of everyday life.
This early morning garden party from two months ago shows Bryn playing quietly while Maya nurses. For more details, including the exact time this was taken, see the full-size image.

Snacker or snackee? Earlier this morning, we found Bryn happily snacking on the big toe of her right foot. This was evidently such a good idea that Maya promptly grabbed the other foot and joined in.
As you might imagine, Daddy hurried up and got their "real" breakfast ready before the "snackee" decided she wasn't having fun any more. :-)
