Tall tales. Today marked the kids' first visit to the pediatrician in over four months, setting a new personal record. They were due for another checkup at 10 months, but evidently that extra month's worth of clean living didn't hurt them at all:
  • Maya: 19 lb 4 oz, 31 in
  • Bryn: 21 lb 0 oz, 30.5 in
According to the almighty growth charts, that puts them in the 97th and 95th percentiles respectively for height (and 25th and 50th for weight).

As promised, they only had a single shot this time, which was largely painless, but unfortunately they also needed a blood draw, which Bryn definitely did notice. Both are fine now.

What a great way to break in the kids' new car seats. Thanks again, Grummy and Farfar!

... or just drop by the house. We have plenty, all blooming in the atrium. :-)

For the past week, Maya has been gleefully trotting all over the house, enjoying her newfound mobility. Little did she know that Bryn has been patiently biding her time. Now it's official ...
Bryn knows how to walk!
As of yesterday, Bryn had only tried a single shuffle step, but so far this evening she's already bumped her record up to six steps in a row.

This kid doesn't mess around. Bryn may take a few more days to figure out what she's gonna do next, but when she's ready -- boom, away she goes, and there's no looking back.

Blast from the past. Has it really been a whole decade since Paul did his infamous BA project? Has it really been four years since he converted all that material to HTML format?

Well then, it's high time that he finally got it all online.

Curtain call. Their matinee performance was such a smashing success that our humble troupe of players graciously agreed to add a twilight show:

"OK, OK, enough with the applause already! My sister's trying to start her opening monologue!"

Duly chastened, the audience settles back to enjoy the performance, in all its rich variety. Where else can you segue smoothly from Bryn's conversational comedy to Maya's dramatic re-enactment of the patron saint of mischief?

Comedy, drama, romance. You'll be moved by laughter, passion, and perhaps a poignant tear.

Yes, this show truly has it all. Bravo! Bravo! Encore!

Backstage. Both kids still love to play behind the curtains:

The answer to both of the obvious questions is "no". Maya's palms are not that flat, and the glass is highly unlikely to stay this clean.

Argh! The entire month of April crept by, and we didn't manage to get out for a single fun day. :-(

On the theory that we've been doing an insufficient job of placating the gods, the slide show for our last fun day -- a quick jaunt to Davenport on, you guessed it, March 31st -- is now online.

It seems that Maya's not satisfied with the previous entry announcing her latest milestone.

Evidently she wants us to scream out ...
Maya knows how to walk!
... because in the last 24 hours, she's not only upped her record to 18 steps in a row, but tonight at bedtime she topped even that. This time, she grabbed a full bottle, stood up, started drinking, turned around, and then walked eight feet across the room, drinking the whole way.

Gotta admit the kid knows how to make a point!

Tonight's favorite song was another rediscovery -- Little White Duck. Sorry Bernard, the critters are all female now. :-)

Recent magic numbers around the household include: 1, 2, 3, 8, 10, and 60. What? Those numbers are meaningless to you? OK, OK, we'll explain:
  • one ... bottom tooth (Bryn)
  • two ... new convertible car seats
  • three ... teeth, two bottom, one top (Maya)
  • eight ... steps in a row (Maya)
  • ten ... months old, this past Saturday
  • sixty ... seconds, continuous free stand (Bryn)
We're quite tickled about all this, actually.
